Planning a summer road trip? For EV drivers, more EV charging in these bucket-list-worthy destinations means more fun and less range anxiety!
It’s January, and in Pittsburgh that means icy windshields, super-warm socks, and, of course, vacation planning! How else are we to survive the long, drab winter?
Over the past few months here at BlastPoint, we’ve done A LOT of research into electric vehicle charging in order to help our energy industry partners prepare for tomorrow’s technology landscape. In the process, we’ve come across some tantalizing, North American road trip destinations–places we should all be lucky enough to visit at least once in our lives–that also happen to have EV charging stations, either onsite or within a very manageable walking distance.
As usual, we’re (nerdily) excited to share these findings–and not just because of their vacation worthiness. We think it’s fascinating that the following fun spots reveal new insights into what we’re seeing as a trend that’s growing here in the U.S. and around the world.
The fact that EV charging exists at these locales means more public-and-private commercial partnerships are cementing. More investment is being funneled toward roadway infrastructure. And more people are moving along the adoption curve.
Without further ado, here are 5 Amazing Vacation Destinations With Plenty of EV Charging:
1. The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY
If you’re a baseball fanatic, a James Fenimore Cooper devotee, or you just like beautiful, lakeside scenery in an adorable, small town, Cooperstown, NY, is for you. Pay homage to the 2020 Hall of fame inductees, pick up some baseball schwag to support America’s favorite pastime, and don’t forget to enjoy the locals’ favorite delicacy: New York sharp cheddar cheese. And don’t worry. There are ChargePoint and Tesla chargers right off the main drag–a mere 4-minute walk to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
2. The Florida Keys
If it’s beach combing, dolphin tours and Daquiris that are calling your name and you just can’t wait for summer to answer them, head south to the breathtaking Florida Keys. Where tiny bungalows and luxury resorts abound, you won’t have to worry about how to charge your EV. Green dots on the map above, generated by our friends at the Alternative Fuels Data Center, represent available charging stations, primarily owned by Tesla, in this glorious oceanic region. Don’t forget to visit Ernest Hemingway’s dreamy abode while there.
3. Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada
Awe-inspiring, rugged, refreshing. The Canadian Rocky Mountains might be just the getaway to escape the oppressive heat of August, which, to be honest, most of us can’t even remember exists right now. Caves for exploring, hot springs for soaking, peaks for hiking, single-track for biking, and, of course, thanks to Tesla, EV plugs for charging, Banff has everything an outdoor adventure lover could ever want or need.

4. Hershey Park and Chocolate World in Hershey, PA
Right here in Pennsylvania happens to host the real-life version of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Home to the famous Hershey Kiss, Hershey’s Chocolate World offers deliciously sinful tours and tasting packages. Stay at the lavish Hershey Resort, and then hit HersheyPark, complete with roller coasters, a water park and an 11-acre zoo. ChargePoint and Tesla offer public charging in a range of lots nearby. If sweets aren’t your thing, fear not. One of the East Coast’s most beloved micro-breweries is right down the street, Trӧegg’s Independent Brewing. (And yes, obvi, they serve a chocolate beer.)
5. Dollywood Parks & Resorts, in Pigeon Forge, TN
As far as we’re concerned, there’s everything right with the-one-and-only Dolly Parton. And the country music star’s namesake is equally entertaining. Known as the “friendliest place in the world,” Dollywood is part theme park, part resort, part feel-good extravaganza, and it’s nestled in the serenely beautiful Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. Alive with bluegrass music festivals, dinner and dancing shows and culinary feasts from around the world, Dollywood makes for an ideal family getaway. Oh, and there’s public EV charging onsite, and in pretty much every direction you go from there.
*If you love Dolly Parton as much as we do, consider supporting her INCREDIBLE program, the Imagination Library, which mails a free, age-appropriate book to any child who signs up, every single month from birth to age 5.
